Mad Kohout, Lenovo Worldwide Competitive Analyst, hat in seinem Thinkpad die Festplatte durch ein SS-Laufwerk (Flash-Festplatte) ausgetauscht und seine Erfahrungen damit so zusammengefasst:
- Boot time was cut in half. Our corporate email program and instant messaging program also load in one half of the time they used to. Even opening and closing large MS Office PowerPoint files is a much faster operation than ever before. Though all of those were enough to make me go “Wow!,” here is the most surprising thing of all: my web browsing has become noticeably much zippier. Pages literally just snap into place..
- This drive definitely runs cooler. …
- Battery life has definitely improved. When I am actively using my PC, I get about an extra 20 – 30 minutes per charge …
Punkt 1 und 2 glaube ich ungeschaut und sind für mich auch nachvollziehbar. Punkt 3 irritiert mich allerdings etwas.
Tom’s Hardware hat in Tests nämlich ermittelt, dass die SSDs deutlich mehr Strom benötigen, als konventionelle Laptop-Festplatten.
Tests von fast einem Dutzend der derzeit so beliebten Flash-Festplatten (nacheinander in einem Dell Latitude D630) haben ergeben, dass die SSDs – je nach Hersteller – bis zu eine Stunde Akkulaufzeit kosten, meint Tom’s Hardware.

Innovative Nutzung von Online-Diensten
Rund 130.00 Einwohner hat die britische Stadt Torbay im Südwesten des Landes. Mit etwa 20 Stränden wird der Ort auch die „englische Riviera” genannt. Doch derzeit ist die Idylle empfindlich gestört. User der Internet-Plattform Facebook hatten für das Wochenende eine riesige Party an einem der Strände angekündigt.

Den letzten Schrei des neuen Internet-Partyvolks haben britische Medien vor einigen Wochen ausgemacht. Per Google Earth würden die schönsten Swimmingpools in fremden Gärten gesucht, über Facebook Freude eingeladen, um die fremden Pools zu entern.

Led Zeppelin won't fly in Guitar Hero
Led Zeppelin’s thundering riffs are among the most sought after by music game makers, but the group’s guitarist, Jimmy Page, and his bandmates have repeatedly turned down offers from both Activision and MTV, says Peter Mensch, a partner at Q Prime Management, which manages Mr. Page, along with Metallica and other acts.
The sticking point: The band isn’t comfortable with the prospect of granting outsiders access to its master tapes, a necessary step in creating the games. „It ain’t about the money,” Mr. Mensch says.
