Ich möchte an dieser Stelle mal daran erinnern, wie lange es vor zehn Jahren noch von Jeff Hans erster Multitouch-Präsentation bis zum ersten iPhone dauerte: 1 fucking Jahr. Nochmal: EIN FUCKING JAHR. Natürlich ist das ein Extremfall und ein singuläres Beispiel für ausgereifte Technologie, die zum richtigen Zeitpunkt auf eine erneut explodierende Netzkultur traf. Und es hilft auch nicht, dass ich in einer Zeit ständigen Wandels aufgewachsen bin. Die Innovationsgeschwindigkeit während meiner Sozialisation von Ende der 70er bis zu den 90ern war mindblowing: Vom 70s-Mief durch die Pop-80s zu den GrungeTechnoHipHop-90s entstand so circa alle drei Jahre irgendeine neue Musik und neue Subkulturen, getrieben von neuen Technologien und Ausdrucksformen, Digitalität demokratisierte praktisch alle Medien-Produktionsmittel in einem vorher nicht dagewesenen Tempo. […] Wir befinden uns in einer Zeit des kulturellen Stillstands. 2015, das große brennende Jahr der Kopf-in-den-eigenen-Arsch-Stecker.

From the „wishful thinking” department: The end of capitalism has begun

Without us noticing, we are entering the postcapitalist era. At the heart of further change to come is information technology, new ways of working and the sharing economy. The old ways will take a long while to disappear, but it’s time to be utopian

middle-men are doomed: they simply can’t add enough value to stay viable as information arbitrage brokers in a telepathic world. So where do we go from there?

As Damien Walter noted recently on twitter, some time between 1995 and 2010, the human species began to develop functional telepathy. (Actually, the first sign of this became real on October 29th, 1969, but exponential growth from a small base takes a long time to become noticeable.) We now have over a billion human beings on the internet, and so many devices that the IPv4 address space is saturated: within the next decade we can expect multiple new satellite internet constellations (such as OneWeb and rivals) to bring pervasive internet access to the globe. Smartphones are pushing down into the sub-$50 space where they’re affordable even by those living just at the global poverty threshold (and the decline in global poverty over the past decade is working away at the other end). It no longer looks implausible to suggest that almost everybody will be online by 2025.

Eine Handreichung zum Thema Hacken

Hacken ist in erster Linie eine Art des Denkens, die sich darauf konzentriert, die tatsächlichen technischen Eigenschaften eines Systems zu verstehen, um es sich dann zu unterwerfen. Ob der Hersteller ins Handbuch schreibt, dass dieses oder jenes nicht geht oder was der vorgesehene Weg ist, die Technik zu benutzen, interessiert einen Hacker nicht. Er erforscht, wie ein Programm geschrieben, wie ein Gerät wirklich hergestellt und programmiert wurde und wie es funktioniert, um aus diesem tiefen Verständnis eigene Folgerungen zu ziehen. Um das zu lernen, darf man keine Scheu vor technischen Details haben, braucht die Geduld, sich gründlich einzulesen, nachzubohren, und muss die Zeit investieren, um viel auszuprobieren. Die Hollywood-Fiktion des überlegenen Super-Hackers, der kurz auf ein System schaut und magisch die richtigen Werkzeuge und das Wissen hat, um es zu besiegen, ist weit von der Realität entfernt.

OpenSSH -- This Is Your 3 Week Warning

The 7.0 release of OpenSSH, due for release in late July, will deprecate several features, some of which may affect compatibility or existing configurations. The intended changes are as follows:

• The default for the sshd_config(5) PermitRootLogin option will change from „yes” to „no”.
• Support for the legacy version 1.x of the SSH protocol will be disabled at compile time by default.
• Support for the 1024-bit diffie-hellman-group1-sha1 key exchange will be run-time disabled by default.
• Support for ssh-dss, ssh-dss-cert-* host and user keys will be run-time disabled by default.
• Support for the legacy v00 cert format will be removed
• Several ciphers will be disabled by default: blowfish-cbc, cast128-cbc, all arcfour variants and the rijndael-cbc aliases for AES
• Refusing all RSA keys smaller than 1024 bits (the current minimum is 768 bits)

Please check the final release notes for OpenSSH 7.0 when it is released.

Das Ende der Netzneutralität in Europa » Michel Reimon

Netzneutralität ist tot. Die Anbieter dürfen bevorzugte Sonderdienste in der Infrastruktur des Internets schaffen und diese gesondert abrechnen. Die Lösung ist eines George Orwell würdig: Wir haben jetzt ein “offenes Internet”, das neutral bleibt. Und in der selben Infrastruktur halt noch “Spezialdienste”, die bevorzugt werden. In den Verhandlungen konnte keine Partei eine Anwendung nennen, die diese Spezialdienste braucht und die es nicht jetzt schon gibt. Tatsächlich geht es darum, Film-, TV- und Musikstreaming sowie Sprachtelefonie zu kostenpflichtigen Zusatzdiensten zu machen, an denen die Telekom-Unternehmen (mit)verdienen. Die USA haben die Netzneutralität gesetzlich garantiert, weil sie kleinen Start-Ups nutzt und die Meinungsfreiheit unterstützt. Europa schafft sie ab – und das als ersten Schritt für den neuen Digitalen Binnenmarkt, den Günther Oettinger schaffen will.
