WOW - Exchange 2007, not quite ready yet
You thought that Exchange 2007 is a finished product? Think again!
From the Exchange Team Blog comes this fascinating info regarding Exchange 2007 SP1:
OWA – SP1 will fill in the feature holes that we just didn’t have time to complete by RTM:
Exchange Management Console – SP1 will fill in the GUI holes that we just didn’t have time to complete by RTM, including:
- Personal distribution lists
- Monthly calendar view
- Deleted items recovery
- Public folder configuration
- POP and IMAP configuration
- SendAs permission configuration
- Delegation wizard scenarios New web service coverage will include:
- Public folder access
No GUI to configure public folders? Neat for a „finished” product.
This proves again: Do not use Microsoft software in a production environment before SP1.
All all this talk on
e-mail is the mission-critical communications tool. If e-mail is so critical, why use a standby replica schema, in which a server has to be activated manually in case of a failure? And then all the dissipation of using a passive node for the Cluster Continuous Replication (a kind of „shared nothing” cluster, Microsoft introduced with Exchange 2007 and Domino had for years). I personally prefer the Lotus Domino Cluster, where each node (possibly on different operating systems and in different locations) can do productive work.
