Stupid ad company
Michael Arrington reports at TechCrunch on AdBrite’s newest offering called „BritePic”. Instead of using the old, boring img tag, they use JavaScript to embedd pictures in webpages. This would look something like this:

OK. Now think of „i2010 A European Information Society for growth and employment” initiative. Part of i2010 is e-Accessibility:
All citizens have the right to benefit from new opportunities that the Information Society offers. People with disabilities and older persons sometimes experience difficulties in accessing these new technologies and services, as some barriers can be inadvertently created by the Information Society itself. Accessibility problems can also be created by specific environment or social conditions.
And take a look at the
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0:
Ensure that pages are usable when scripts, applets, or other programmatic objects are turned off or not supported.
Now, of course you could add a „noscript” section with a normal img tag to this abnormality of JavaScript to fullfill the WAI requirements. But why bloat your pages with JavaScript, if a simple, standartized img tag would be enough?
