Apple bought CUPS

In February of 2007, Apple Inc. acquired ownership the CUPS source code and hired me (Michael R Sweet), the creator of CUPS.
CUPS will still be released under the existing GPL2/LGPL2 licensing terms, and I will continue to develop and support CUPS at Apple.
Common Unix Printing System (CUPS) is printing system for Unix-like computer operating systems that allows a computer to act as a print server. When used with Samba, printers can be used on remote Windows computers and generic PostScript drivers can be used for printing across the network.
As Apple bought the rights from Mike, they now own the copyright on the CUPS source. Currently, the code is still licensed unter GPL2/LGPL2, but many expect a change of that in the future, as Apple ist not very fond of the GPL.
