What Ed Giveth, IBM Taketh Away
Do you remember Ed Brill posting „I am fixing some IBM downloads challenges, starting with filenames”?
In this posting, Ed announced that IBM will move away from using the IBM part number as the filename and use a longer, self-documenting string that also includes a description of what the downloaded software actually is. This was a great step forwards in the usability of the download process for IBM Lotus software.
Unfortunately, there seems to be some give and take business going at the download team. ;) Apparently we have to give up something else for the usefull filenames and it appears to be the text we can search for.
If you are now searching for the Lotus Notes Client software, you won’t find it, if you search for „Lotus Notes” at the IBM Passport site. You now have to search for „Domino Client Access” in order to find for example the „IBM Lotus Notes Standard Client 8.5.2”.
So, get used to the new names.
