Leyrer's Favourite Things 2022
It’s probably too late to get some of this stuff for your loved one (which is usually the reason for these „favourite things” lists) but none the less, let me with you a few things I acquired and used or that sparked joy for me in the past year.
All links are evil Amazon affiliate links. Feel free to just copy and paste the names, titles, … and shop somewhere else :)
Top of my list is definitely Open Circuits: The Inner Beauty of Electronic Components, by Windell Oskay and Eric Schlaepfer. Such a wonderful, wonderful book that really sparks joy every time I open it.
Indispensable since I learned about them at Haxogreen are these little Baseus 65 W USB Chargers. Either as a wall wart with 2x USB-C and 1x USB-A ports or with a 1,5m cable to the block and with 2x USB-C and 2x USB-A ports.
I am so happy with my Plantronics Blackwire 5210 cabled headset (mono version), that I ordered a pair for a colleague who still shouted into the built-in mic of his laptop. I did it for our customers and colleagues ;)
Although the cool YouTube „kids” are currently all switching to the DJI Mic Wireless Microphone System, I am still very happy with the Rode Wireless GO II, especially when combined with the RØDE Lavalier GO Professional Lavalier Lapel Microphone. These act as additional microphones when connected to a computer and the receiver also acts as an additional recorder. With this setup I never lost an audio recording. And they sound awesome.
My favourite „business related” book this year was Kill It with Fire: Manage Aging Computer Systems (and Future Proof Modern Ones), by Marianne Bellotti, which I can not recommend to everyone working in IT strongly enough.
And of course my favourite „regular” book of 2022 was Amongst Our Weapons, by Ben Aaronovitch , the 9th installment in his „Rivers of London” series, which I love.
Last, but not least, I ordered it like two years ago, but it was finally delivered in 2022, the Ultimate Hacking Keyboard (UHK 60 v2). I took me a while to get used to, but now I am very happy with this „funky” keyboard from Hungary.
