Microsoft Office lernt Standard-Formate

Der Streit, ob nun das von Sun/IBM favorisierte OASIS Open Document Format for Office Applications (ODF) oder Microsofts Office „Open” XML (OOXML) besser/einfacher/kompatibler/… sei, ist noch immer im voll im Gange (eine kurze Google-Suche nach diesen Themen bestätigt das). Sun macht nun Microsoft-Kunden die Verwendung von ODF deutlich einfacher.

Ab sofort ist das „Sun ODF Plug in 1.0 for Microsoft Office” verfügbar. Unterstützt werden sowohl MS Office 2003, MS Office 2000 und MS Office XP als auch die Anwendungen Word, Excel und PowerPoint. Mit Office 2007 – hier hat sich ja so einiges geändert (Microsoft nennt das „Investionssicherheit” bzw. „Kompatibilität”) – gibt es beim Speichern noch Probleme, daher wird Microsofts neuestes Office noch nicht unterstützt.

Mit dem installierten Plugin verhält sich der Umgang mit den Files nach dem ISO/IEC 26300:2006 Standard nicht anders, als die nativen Microsoft-Formate. Man kann sogar .odt, .ods und .odp als Standardformat beim Speichern einstellen. An einer deutschen Version wird bereits gearbeitet, bezgl. des Office 2007 Problems hoffen die Verantwortlichen, dass das nächste Office Service Pack von Microsoft dieses behebt.

Personen mit einem guten Langzeitgedächnis werden nun fragen, wie es um das von Microsoft unterstützteOpenXML/ODF Translator Add-in for Office” steht. Nun, am 5. Februar wurde die Version 1.0 des „Open XML Translator” veröffentlicht. Unterstützt wird – haltet euch fest – Word. Jawohl, nur Microsofts Textverarbeitung, sonst nix. Unterstützung für Excel und PowerPoint sind auf Version 0.2. Eher traurig, oder?
