InformationWeek - The Line Must Be Drawn Here!
Back when I was young and naïf, I subscribed to a few InformationWeek e-mail newsletters. Yes, that was before RSS. Yes, I am THAT old.
In contrast to their pledges „to take privacy seriously” and offering opt-out links at the end of their mails, UBM TechWeb keeps sending me unsolicited e-mails aka. Spam.
Today, I got so annoyed by this behaviour, that I changed my mailserver configuration, so that I can block their mails before they reach my inbox.
As I do not use RBL and the likes, I had to add an ACL rule to block senders defined in a file. So I edited /etc/exim4/conf.d/acl/40_exim4-config_check_data on my Debian box and added the following lines right before the „accept” statement at the end:
deny senders = /etc/exim4/deny_senders message = $sender_host_address blocked due to not honoring \ unsubscribtion requests from <$recipients>. \ Please do not try again.
Now all I had to do was edit /etc/exim4/deny_senders to add the offending senders,
*@techwebresearch.com *@pmtechwebresources.com *@techweb.com *@pm.pmtechwebresources.com *@reg.techweb.com
reload exim and I got UBM TechWeb InformationWeek under control again.
