UKLUG / ICON is no more
Warren Elsemore today announced that this years UKLUG/ICON event in Brighton will be the last he will organize and therefore probably the last forever. Although I fully understand his reasons (infuriating as they are), my heart is broken.
I have not been to all UKLUGs. I only attended ILUG 2008 in Dublin, UKLUG 2009 in Edinburgh and UKLUG 2012 in Cardif. And I won’t make it to Brighton this year. :(
But these events, along with the different Lotuspheres I attended, shaped my understanding of the Yellowverse. Even more, these events created friendships – if I may call them so – with some of the brightest minds and friendliest people in IT.
So there is one less event to meet Warren and Kitty Elsmore, Paul Mooney, Bill Buchan, Matt White, Sharon Bellamy, Simon Peek, Duffbert, Paul Withers, Steve McDonagh, Ben Poole, Mark Myers and his lovely wife Aliki, Bruce and Gayle Elgort, Tim Clark, Chris Miller, Julian Robichaux, Stuart McIntyre, Theo Heselmans, Gab Davis, Pedro Quaresma, Chris Coates, Franziska Tanner, Eileen Fitzgerald, Gregory Engels, Giuseppe Grasso, Julian Woodward, Kevin Pettitt, Rob Novak, Vitor Pereira and all the awesome people from the Yellowverse I did not mention here.
So please join me in raising a glass of your favourite beverage in honor of Warren, Kitty and everybody involved in making the UKLUGs such amazing events and to an era coming to an end next week.
As I am currently employed as an IT-Specialist in IBMs ICS brand, I want to point out that the postings in this blog – and especially this posting – are my own and don’t necessarily represent IBM’s positions, strategies or opinions and I am not speaking on behalf of IBM.
